Ischia

Ischia is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and unique islands in the Mediterranean, especially for its spas. Those looking for the sea, find wonderful sandy bays and those who like the mountains will not be disappointed by vineyards and countryside just as art lovers also find many treasures of art and history. Ischia, in fact, offers not only seaside tourism but many other attractions.

The island of Ischia was the first colony of Magna Graecia, a choice that the Greeks made in the western Mediterranean basin. Not only is the visit to the Aragonese Castle a must, unmissable destinations are the church of Soccorso and visiting the Archaeological Museum of Villa Arbusto in Lacco Ameno, where you can learn about the history of the island of Ischia from prehistory to the Roman age.
Until 1950 Ischia was an island of farmers and fishermen, little known by tourists. In 1951 Angelo Rizzoli, publisher and film producer, arrived in Ischia on his yacht. In just 10 years Rizzoli managed to transform Ischia into an important tourist destination of international level: he was the one who invited Hollywood and Italian stars, painters and musicians. And thanks to him if Ischia owns a hospital. Rizzoli was the man who modernized the island of Ischia. He began to advertise in his magazines the hotels of Ischia all over the world for the cinema he made films that made the island famous all over the world, almost an obligatory destination for “people who mattered” in the 1950s and 1960s. Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Ava Gardner, Charlie Chaplin, the Dukes of Windsor visited Ischia and were enchanted by it. In 2018 many scenes from the fiction “L’amica Geniale” were shot in Ischia, as well as some scenes from the Hollywood film “Men in Black 4” with Chris Hemsworth.
