There are many events that animate the island of Ischia every year: each season is marked by shows, gatherings, parades and celebrations that are well suited to the variety of the climate and – consequently – the natural scenarios. In this way, it will always be the perfect time to visit the island: in Ischia, tourist attractions happen. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the rich calendar of events and initiatives that aim at cultural exaltation and the full involvement of those who come from far away as well as its inhabitants.
Some of the most unmissable events concern sporting events and excursions as well as initiatives rooted in the local culture of the island. We point out the main ones.

SPORT EVENTS

APRIL: GREAT FUND 100 KM ISCHIA GREEN ISLAND 2020
It starts from the Piazzale del Borgo in Ischia Ponte: a route first of all for the view because in the meantime you can appreciate the most beautiful and evocative natural details of the Island, from different perspectives. A continuous alternation between uphill, downhill and flat kms, between wider roads with narrower alleys and, all in all, magical. It will be almost difficult to perceive the fatigue of such an articulated path, given its beauty.

MAY: SCHERIA CUP
The Italian Naval League section Ischia Island and Municipality of Forio organizes a regatta that lasts a full day open to ORC, IRC, metric and catamaran boats. The route revolves around the beautiful island departing from Forio.

MAY: ISCHIA SUNSET TRIATHLON
The sports trio that alternates swimming, running and cycling takes advantage of the territorial versatility of the island of Ischia: the cycling route winds along Via Cristoforo Colombo and Via Marina, the walking route will cover the historic center of Forio, the swimming race has as background the beach of Chaia.

GREEN APPOINTMENTS

ALL YEAR: EXCURSION OF THE FALANGA FORESTS
A whole day that aims to bring people together and give them abundant pleasant moments, to be spent appreciating the richness and natural beauty of trees and plants that give the view a green, dense view. An alternative to the classic summer day to spend on the beach, the excursion to the Falanga woods proceeds to Case di Pietra, Fosse della Neve and ends at Pietra Pirciata.

FROM JUNE TO SEPTEMBER: LA MORTELLA GARDENS, CONCERTS IN THE GREEN
From spring to autumn, chamber music concerts and symphonic concerts animate Forio, visitors and inhabitants. The beauty of this appointment lies in the scenario in which it takes shape: the La Mortella Gardens, where nature is embellished with elements such as fountains, artificial lakes, etc.
The season of concerts taking place in the Greek Theater, a beautiful hill amphitheater, takes place in three moments: in the spring and autumn, the recitals of chamber music. In summer the Festival for youth orchestras.

MAY: BOTANICAL EXHIBITION AT NEGOMBO
Spring in Ischia is entirely dedicated to the world of flowers and plants. The most beautiful and luxuriant they even deserve an exhibition: the Ipomea del Negombo is a market of rare plants that can be admired within a breathtaking scenario such as that of the island of Ischia. An exclusive event dedicated to the world of gardening that brings together nurserymen, craftsmen and enthusiasts.

JUNE: FESTIVAL OF THE GINESTRA, ISCHIA IN FIORE
It starts from the Piazza di Buonopane and takes a totally green path, almost traced by the beautiful yellow gorse that in the spring, in Ischia, are lush. The journey then leads to the San Paolo plain where it will be possible to taste the specialties of the poor, peasant cuisine, accompanied by good local wine.

CULTURAL EVENTS

JUNE / JULY: ISCHIA FILM FESTIVAL
Of worldwide importance, Ischia Film Festival is an event that Ischia people are certainly proud of. Island pride, the annual event rewards all those audiovisual works that have best told and enhanced the landscape beauties of Italy and beyond, giving great importance to the cultural component. )Among the attendees there are nationally and internationally renowned artists, directors, set designers, directors of photography and set designers.

JUNE: A NDREZZATA OF BARANO D’ISCHIA
On the day of the feast of San Giovanni, in Ischia, something extraordinary happens in the streets: a folkloristic event, strongly linked to the popular tradition: the ‘ndrezzata – which means “intertwining” – is a dance whose music is made of song in dialect. It is a real intertwining of the circle of men with that of women which then leads to a battle of swords and mazzarelli. Men have characteristic white, red and green costumes and caps. Many times, then, it is men who play the role of women. This appointment happens on Easter Monday.

JULY: ISCHIA GLOBAL FEST FILM & MUSIC
The Ischia Global Fest is all about Italian films, short films and video clips. The event is promoted by the International Academy of Art in Ischia and E.P.T in Naples and is a great opportunity for these productions to be known internationally.

RELIGIOUS APPOINTMENTS

APRIL: ACTUS TRAGICUS FORIO
During Easter the Actus Tragicus takes place in Ischia, a via crucis in period costumes, dedicated to the passion and death of Jesus. A procession that winds along the main streets of Forio whose participants wear period costumes made by a local craftsman. The performance takes place in Piazza Colombo.

APRIL: CORSA DELL’ANGELO IN FORIO
Also during the Easter period, another religious event animates the island of Ischia. On Sunday, along the course, the Corsa dell’Angelo takes place, a procession with the copy of a beautiful gilded wooden statue (kept in the Archconfraternity Church), made in the workshop of the sculptor Francesco Mollica. The procession brings together all the inhabitants of Ischia, also involving tourists.

MAY: FESTIVAL OF SANTA RESTITUITA IN LACCO ARMENO
The festival takes place in the spring: it is the oldest patronal feast on the island, the one dedicated to the patron saint of Ischia. The beauty of this religious celebration lies above all in its last day: a fireworks display close to the sea.
JUNE: FESTIVAL OF SAN VITO A FORO
Spread over four days, the feast of San Vito in Foro d’Ischia is strongly felt by its inhabitants. Scheduled in two moments, religious and entertainment, with concerts, bands and a fair both in the center and on the waterfront.

AUGUST: SANT’ALESSANDRO PARADE
An appointment that has lasted for about ten years in Ischia and takes place in the middle of the summer, precisely in August: the Sant’Alessandro parade – in the village of the same name – sees its participants (about a hundred of them) dressed in marvelous costumes of era that are a reference to the various historical moments of Ischia, up to the Bourbon kings. The procession starts from the Aragonese Castle and ends right in the small village located on the left hill of the port of Ischia: the celebrations then last all night.
