The Mortella Gardens
Awarded in 2004 as the most beautiful garden in Italy by Briggs & Stratton magazine, this beautiful park is located in Forio, at the beginning of the road leading to the Zaro forest. On two levels, the park is home to thousands of Mediterranean and tropical plants. From the rare Gingko biloba, celebrated by Goethe, to Victoria amazonica, an aquatic plant famous because its flowers change color in just one day and then immerse themselves in water. Managed by the Foundation named after William Walton (English composer, architect, together with his wife Susana Gyl and the landscape designer Russel Page, of the park’s design), La Mortella is not only a botanical garden. Inside, you can enjoy classical and chamber music concerts thar are held here. Locations appointed to the “Sala Recite” and the “Greek Theater” suggestive outdoor space from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Foriano coast.
The Garden is open to the public from Easter to the end of October (in winter only by reservation) from 9.00 to 19.00 on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

The bay of Sorgeto

The Archaeological Museum of Pithecusae is considered one of the most important ceramic museums in Campania, The most important finding is certainly the Nestor’s Cup, a small vase with a lateral incision that represents one of the oldest testimonies of Greek alphabetic writing.

Sant’Angelo is a picturesque seaside village, located in the far south of the island of Ischia. The territory is closed to car traffic so you can breathe an air of yesteryear, surrounded by the sea and pastel-colored houses. The particularity of the small square with bars, restaurants and renowned boutiques has for years given the town the well-deserved name of “little Capri”.
Sant’Angelo is not only the famous Piazzetta, the suggestion is to visit Sant’Angelo by taking a walk also in the upper area, called the Madonnella, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view and you can reach the Maronti beach, the Fumaroles and the Aphrodite-Apollon thermal park.

Mount Epomeo
The highest peak on the island of Ischia is that of Mount Epomeo, which reaches 789 meters above sea level. Climbing to the top is an unforgettable experience that can be done all year round. The most convenient starting point is the Piazzetta di Fontana, the highest municipality on the island, which is about 3 km from the summit.
Waiting for the visitor, on top there is the small Augustinian convent entirely excavated in the green tuff with the ancient hermitage of San Nicola. The panorama is truly breathtaking and it is possible to admire the whole island of Ischia from above with the Gulf of Naples, Vesuvius and on days where the air is clearer you can gaze up to the Circeo archipelago in low Lazio and to the Sorrento peninsula.

The Aragonese Castle and Ischia Ponte
Ischia Ponte formerly called Borgo di Celsa, is the oldest inhabited center of Ischia. Ancient village of peasants and fishermen, it retains its beauty unaltered, with the characteristic narrow streets overlooked by both elegant buildings and low and colorful houses.
At the end of the village of Ischia Ponte we find the famous Aragonese Castle, connected to the mainland by a stone bridge, about 200 meters long, built by Alfonso V of Aragon. In the waters in front of the Castle, on July 26 takes place one of the events in Ischia that arouses the greatest interest: the sea party on the rocks of Sant’Anna that attracts tourists from all over the world. The lucky participants have the opportunity to admire the simulation of the Castle fire, which turns red in the middle of the night, the fireworks display in time to the music and the festive procession of aquatic floats.

Fumaroles on Maronti beach
The Fumaroles are located right on the beach, between the village of Sant’Angelo and Maronti beach and can be reached on foot (uphill) or with small electric cars from Sant’Angelo. Here it is possible to observe phenomena of water vapor emission, which rises up to meet the sand, overheating the overlying layers. Temperatures can go up to 100 ° C and care must be taken not to burn yourself.
